Alexis Garcia – Baseball April AofM

Baseball:  Alexis Garcia (#326237) 12th Grader Current GPA: 3.50 Varsity

“Alexis has done a great job for us this year on the mound and at the plate.  He is currently hitting .304 and is second on our team w/8RBIs.  But what Alexis means to us on the mound goes beyond his stats.  Every time Alexis takes the ball to pitch we know he will keep us in the game.  He currently is 3-3 on the season with a 3.27 ERA along with 2 saves.  He also has 4 complete games and has thrown over 40 innings already this season.  It is with great pride that I nominate Alexis Garcia for April Athlete of the Month.”

Cheerleading:  Maria Melo (#332646) 11th Grader Current GPA: 2.67 Varsity

“Maria Melo is being nominated for April’s Athlete of the Month because she has shown tremendous growth over the season.  She is a positive role model for our younger athletes and is an overall great teammate.  She is versatile and never quits on herself.  Lastly, Maria is always up to try something new and if not right the first time she takes the time to find a way to make it hit.”

Natalie Carlos - Softball April AofM

Softball:   Natalie Carlos (#353012) 9th Grader Current GPA: 2.50 Varsity

“As a freshman coming into the varsity season Natalie knew she was going to be a big part of our plans and she has done nothing but exceed our expectations.  Her bat has been the most impressive thing as she leads the team with 5 homeruns.  Natalie has bought in to our hitting approach and has solidified our line up from top to bottom.  Her help on the mound was much needed giving Arilin days off and establishing Natalie as a dominant #2 starter.  The sky is the limit for this freshman!”  Coach Medina

Girls’ Swimming:   Joselyn Bernal (#347059) 9th Grader Current GPA: 3.87 JV

“Joselyn Bernal came to us in the summer not knowing how to swim at all. Through her own hard work and dedication she has shown huge improvements over the last 9 months, this is especially evident in her stellar attendance. With the lack of a pool our athletes are asked to give up their evenings to participate in our sport as you can imagine attendance can be a little spotty, Joselyn has missed only 1 practice in the last 3 months and even that was an excused absence. It is this type of commitment that coaches thrive upon and allows athletes to make the greatest amount of improvement. For her commitment and dedication to swim it is with honor that we name Joselyn Bernal our April athlete of the month.”   Coach Morris

Boys’ Swimming:   Anthony Sanchez (#410708) th Grader Current GPA: 3.00 Varsity

“Anthony Sanchez has impressed us with his work ethic and his deep motivation for improvement. He has shown great commitment to the team both with his attendance his positive attitude at practice. With Anthony it is always “how can I get better?” “Was that faster?” As an athlete those questions are a coach’s dream, he is constantly looking to improve and has really distanced himself as one of our top varsity swimmers this year. Coach Lee and I are looking forward to having Anthony on our both our swim and polo teams for one year and to continue to watch him improve.”   Coach Morris

Boys’ Tennis:   Saul O’Campo (#352269) 12th Grader Current GPA: 3.00 Varsity

“Saul O’Campo provides tremendous leadership to a team filled with underclassmen.  He was selected as team captain because of his ability to lead by example.  He has been our most consistent player this year, helping lead his team to a 6-2 record and second place standing in league.  He made a move this year from doubles to singles and has played extremely well.”   Coach Cortez
