50 Female Student-Athlete GRIZZLIES ATTEND the 19th Annual


What a GREAT DAY!!

Fifty female student-athlete Grizzlies attended the 2019 Women In Sports Conference on Wednesday, February 27 held at the Eastside Campus in Anaheim.  This is an annual WIS celebration in Orange County that is sponsored and coordinated by the Orange County Athletic Directors Association.  This event was started 19 years ago to celebrate the participation and journey of women in sports.  The OCADA group works over the year to line up guest speakers with ties to Orange County high school female athletics.

This year’s event proved to be another inspiring and motivational day for everyone in attendance with another great line-up of speakers:

JAYNE STRAND – former college and professional basketball player.

TAYYIBA HANEEF PARK – 3 time Olympian with the US Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team.

JILL JELNICK – Southern CA native who grew up playing sports and earned a D1 softball ride to East Carolina Univ.  She is now a sports broadcaster in San Antonio, Texas.

KHLOE THOMPSON – 8 year old founder of Khloe Kares Foundation, she has made it her mission in life to help the homeless and also raises money to help provide water pumps to areas with no water access in Ghana.

DR. NANCY KELLY – Superintendent of Schools for Upland Unified School District – sharing her personal story of the importance of mental health and how to deal with depression, every day pressures and get the help you need.

All speakers had such important and vital messages for today’s female student-athletes.  They shared their personal stories and struggles in their lives and the quest to become better people.  It was a great day and a big shout-out and thank you to all of the Orange County Athletic Directors along with the guest speakers.  Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the event and we are all looking forward to the event!  Here are some event photos of the speakers as they took the podium and spoke their truth and of the day’s fun event:

Tayyiba Haneef Park – attended Laguna Hills HS as a high school athlete and is a 3 time Olympian.

Khloe Thompson – now 11 yrs old speaks about how she began her foundation to help homeless people.

Dr. Nancy Kelly shares her very personal story of dealing with a close friend’s death and her fall into depression.
50 Godinez female-student athletes enjoy listening to speakers.

Jill Jelnick shares her story and how she became a sports news anchor/reporter. She attended Aliso Niguel HS.
