OCTOBER 2019

ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to our October Athletes of the Month for being selected by their coach as standout individuals in Godinez fall sports programs!  Way to go Grizzlies!  Here they are and why they were selected to represent their sport:

Natalie Morales – Cheer October AofM

Traditional Cheerleading:  Natalie Morales 12th Grader Current GPA:  3.00 Varsity

“Natalie is being nominated because she has worked immensely hard this summer and school year.  She works hard every practice and goes beyond what’s expected whenever needed to do so.  She’s even sacrificed her free time to attend practices on her own to better her skills as an athlete.  Natalie has worked so hard and her work is starting to show in her overall growth of skills.  She has helped make Godinez Cheer a stronger program.”     Coach Prawl

Alan Rodriguez – BXC October AofM

Boys’ Cross-Country:  Alan Rodriguez 12th Grader Current GPA: 2.67 Varsity

“Alan has been making great progress this year.  He’s been working hard since summer and he will help lead the team through the finals.  His mentality about running and training has changed for the better.  He always displays a great attitude and character, which is setting the tone for the younger runners.”    Coach Rocha-Rodriguez

Yuliana Carrera GXC October AofM

Girls’ Cross-Country: Yuliana Carrera  12th Grader Current GPA: 3.17 Varsity

“Yuliana continues to be an inspiration to our team.  She battled through adversity to be in Cross-Country.  She struggled with her health and managed to get healthy and came back bigger, better, and stronger.  Yuli started from the bottom and is now our top runner.  She works hard and became confident in herself.  When she toes the line in a race, she is fearless.  She leads by example and has started a wild fire of enthusiasm!  Today, she leads her team as they continue to chase a league title and are only inches away.  It’s been an honor seeing her grow as a runner and individual over the past 3 years.”  Coach Valdez

Daniel Mungia – Football October AofM

Football:  Daniel Mungia  12th Grader Current GPA: 2.66  Varsity

“Daniel has been a very bright point for the Grizzly football team.  He has developed into a great leader on and off the field.”                                                                                   Coach Hernandez

Maria Nieto – GTennis October AofM

Girls’ Tennis:  Maria Nieto  12th Grader Current GPA: 4.0 Varsity

“Maria has improved tremendously this year, becoming the top player on the team.  She has performed well throughout the entire season so far, earning a record of 15-3, and sweeping 4 of the first 6 matches so far.  She has become our go to player when we need a win.  She is equally productive in the classroom, maintaining a challenging academic course load while dominating on the tennis court.  Great example of a scholar athlete.”    Coach Cortez

Emily Lopez – GVolleyball October AofM

Girls’ Volleyball:  Emily Lopez  12th Grader Current GPA:  3.33 Varsity

“Emily has been working extremely hard and has improved tremendously in her position as a middle blocker.  Her positive attitude is an encouragement to her fellow teammates.  She is constantly asking for feedback and looking for ways to improve her skills.  She displays leadership by example in her “never give up” attitude.”    Coach Nixon

Gilbert Gonzalez – BPolo October AofM

Boys’ Water Polo:  Gilbert Gonzalez  12th Grader Current GPA: 2.83 Varsity

Gilbert Gonzalez came into this sport as a senior only knowing how to swim. He slowly learned to egg beat and has managed to improve over time. He is always well mannered and is quick to understand what we are doing. He is also a great asset to the team with being a strong shot on weak side. Great Grizzly overall.”     Coach Cruz
