NOVEMBER 2017 ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Boys’ Cross-Country:  Angel Ramirez  12th Grader Current GPA:  4.00 Varsity

“Angel is well known for his smarts in the classroom, but he is also an outstanding runner.  He set his personal best at Dana Hills with a time of 15:27.  This is one of the fastest in the history of Godinez.  Additionally, he is one of our team captains and leads through hard work, consistency and an unwavering commitment to his training.”   Coach Sanchez

Girls’ Cross-Country: Jessica Arana  10th Grader Current GPA:  3.67 Varsity

“Jessica Arana is new to the cross-country program and has shown passion and drive to be the best she can while helping her teammates at the same time.  Although she is new to the sport and still is learning, she steps up for her team as needed and has now ran a couple of varsity races.  We are happy to have her on the team and look forward to watching her continue to get better.”  Coach Conde

Football:  Larry Perea  12th Grader Current GPA:  3.83 Varsity

“Larry exemplifies the core values of our football program and Godinez Fundamental.  He is a terrific leader and a hard working student.  He remains to be one of our chosen captains and does so with sportsmanship.  Larry continues to be an excellent example of what it takes to be a leader both on the field and in the classroom.”  Coach Heathington

Girls’ Tennis:  Samantha Rodriguez 12th Grader Current GPA:  3.00 Varsity

“Samantha is a tireless competitor.  She sacrificed her own desires to play doubles this year, as she did last year, to play singles for the good of the team.  She exemplifies the essence of hard work and effort on the court.  She works hard every day, every match, leaving it all on the court.  She was the only singles player to go undefeated yesterday to lead her team to victory at Saddleback.  Truly someone will be missed by both coaches and teammates alike.”    Coach Cortez

Boys’ Water Polo:  Jude Marting  9th Grader Current GPA:  4.00  Varsity

“Jude Marting joined our water polo program in July as an incoming freshmen and while it was clear he would be one of our better new recruits his development was outstanding.  He grasped water polo skills and concepts at an incredible pace earning him a spot on the varsity team as a freshmen.  Throughout the season Jude has shown tremendous hustle both offensively and defensively leading to key plays during critical moments of our games.  That hustle and determination to improve every day in practice and every day in games is what makes Jude such a big part of our program and makes him our Athlete of the Month.”  Coach Morris

Girls’ Volleyball:  Karen Salazar  11th Grader Current GPA:   2.67  Varsity

“Karen Salazar has grown into a fine player.  She has tremendous potential and I believe she can become a great player.  Karen was timid at first and now she is starting to understand her role.  She’s a really friendly person and has a great attitude and I believe she would make a great teammate anywhere.  I hope I can help to make her into a great player and that she continues to strive for greatness.”  Coach Sok
